My Favorite - Week 2 Reflections in MTBoS

MyFav
In thinking about "my favorite..." part of teaching and learning in the math classroom, all of my ideas pale in comparison to others who have posted amazing resources on the #MTBoS.  So I am thankful for this aggregate site where I can always keep learning new ideas, tips, and tricks with respect to teaching.
My favorite thing is teaching the kids!  You know, the good days, when the lesson works out how you had planned.  You had been leading up to this point for a few days, then you toss the idea out for them to consider.  They eat it up!  I love the moment when the kid gets the big "OOOHHHHH!!!" reflections - that the puzzle pieces finally click.  That happens for me sometimes and I love it.  I have used items from Sarah Hagan at http://mathequalslove.blogspot.com/ and Julie Rebach at https://180algebra2.wordpress.com/.  I also have a great group of colleagues that share through PLC's and have also found good resources through https://illuminations.nctm.org/.  I try and incorporate new pieces into lessons to make them better!
My absolute favorite unit to teach is the trigonometry unit to juniors where we for the first time get to see the relationship between right triangle SOH CAH TOA and the unit circles.  I tell them this is where triangles and circles finally become one in the same.  We even get to "unroll" the circle to produce basic trigonometric graphs.  I love this unit!
